Removing Decals From Carbon Rims

Just wipe on and get that sticky stuff off, wipe with a clean dry rag to get the residue off then i usually clean with maguiars cleaner/wax to finish.

Removing decals from carbon rims. Shave legs sparingly, rub in embrocation and. I gave up on each because it was clear nothing was working. Still it wasn't easy though, takes a little bit of time for the stuff to turn the stickie stuff into goo you can remove.

Avoid exposing carbon rims to any excessive or prolonged sources of heat. Heat them with a hair dryer. And then try to remove them.

If you use these products, be careful, as they can damage decals. If they are a cellulose based decal, then acetone or cellulose thinners should 'dissolve' them recipe: Hold the end of the hairdryer at least 1 in (2.5 cm) away from the surface of the bike, which will allow the glue from the sticker to start melting.

If only there was a way to apply a permanent graphic and not have to add a clear coat over top… We recommend that you always clean the rim with acetone to remove the oily residue left by the citrus solvents. The problem with decals on carbon rims is that if you don’t want them to look cheap, or peel off, you need to apply a clear coat over the wet slide.

That heat was needed as everyone always says to use it when removing decals. With a 45mm deep and stiff profile, the wr45 is designed. Tubeless tape this is a required option.

Picked up some old toweling and rubbed it. Reynolds also recommends acetone, and also notes that using no heavier than 120 grit sandpaper can also help, although another cleaning with acetone should follow any light sanding. I tried various cleaning agents, everything from, wd40 to acetone, meths, and god knows what.

Use a credit card or a plastic spoon or something else with a somewhat hard edge to flake the decals off. While not a huge weight penalty, it still adds up especially with deeper dish wheels. Step 2 mix the detergent, vinegar and hot water in your cleaning bucket to use as a cleaning solution. The decals can be peeled if you try hard enough but some stick to the carbon coating so hard that you can lift the coat small areas.

If you are looking for more ways to remove stickers i suggest you run a search as this topic has been debated quite deliberately. I used it to remove a couple of stickers on my carbon rims (reynolds), didn't mess up the clear coat. Like acetone, it's pretty nasty stuff that you don't want to be inhaling or getting on your skin, but works great (and with manufacturer's blessing) on my edge rims.

Add valve stem usd +7 each. It's citrus based i think. Wd40 or goo gone will not harm the finish.

As one of our widest road rims designs, the wr45 is the answer for the gravel rider trying to squeeze out every aerodynamic advantage from their setup. Just did it on my bike this weekend with no problems. Use white spirit to get the glue off of the rim.

One thing that won't harm carbon rims/wheels is hanging a bicycle from them on hooks for storage. Special note regarding carbon and exposure to extreme heat: I am sure that acetone or xylene (dont inhale this stuff!) in moderate quantities can be used because that is what we use to.

Just be sure to pad the rim against damage. Hexane, the solvent in vittoria mastik, is the fastest and easiest thing for removing old glue i know, and very effective for revitalizing and smoothing the old glue on your rims as well. “to remove tubular glue or adhesive from the rim.
